GOD IS BIGGER THAN ALL YOUR PROBLEMS

⏰Wednesday of the Thirteenth Week of Ordinary Time 1 (05 July 2017)

????Gen 21:5, 8-20; Ps 34:7-8, 10-11, 12-13 (R.v.7a); Matt 8:28-34

Yesterday, we saw Jesus take the battle to the seat of power of the evil one, that is the sea, and silenced the evil one to the amazement of his disciples. Today, Jesus continues the clean-up exercise for which he came. And the details of today’s activities are very interesting.

The country of the Gadarenes (which Mark 5:1 and Luke 8:26 have as Gerasenes) was a pagan territory. There, two demoniacs who came up from the tombs met him on the way, probably to terrorize him as they would have been doing to other passersby. But this time, they met with their doom because the light is a danger to the kingdom of darkness (cf. John 1:5). The deliverance of the demoniacs is an indication that he is greater than all evil forces.

Notice also that the demoniacs indicated that Jesus came to destroy them before “the time.” The Cross is considered as the final ultimate defeat of the kingdom of darkness. But this is happening before the time of crucifixion. Jesus is God and has power to do whatever he wills and at any time he wills. Nothing can stop him.

God is our deliverer and provider; he went into Gadara to purify it and deliver those in bondage. May he also deliver you from all the torments of the evil one in your life and that of your loved ones. May he also provide for you and your family just as he provided for Hagar and her baby when all hopes seemed lost (cf. Gen 21:15-20). Amen.

I wish a rich and safe day ahead. Peace be with you.
