O LORD, INCREASE MY FAITH

We all indeed need an increase in faith. We need to possess that kind of faith that moves mountain (cf. Matt 17:20).

Heb 11:1 says that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it, the men of old received divine approval.” Abraham was an example of this. He hoped against hope. Even when they were almost passed child bearing age in the eyes of man, he still believed that God would do it.

Can I have such a living faith? The disciples of Jesus lacked that faith. Even after Jesus had said, “Let us go across to the other side” (Mark 4:35), they still doubted the possibility of their reaching the other side. They forgot the word of God in Isa 55:11 that the word that goes off the mouth of God shall not return to him unfulfilled. He would later confirm that heaven and earth will pass away but his words would not pass away (cf. Matt 24:35).

St. Thomas Aquinas, whose memorial we celebrate today possessed that faith greatly and spent his life deepening it through prayer and study. He taught this faith to others through the many books he wrote, which are still very standard books in the study of philosophy and theology. Yet, he was a very humble man, knowing that without God, he is nothing.

I need to possess such faith. And I also pray that God may grant the grace to possess such faith too so that you might be able to pull out the mountain that constructes an obstacle to you. Amen.

Have a wonderful weekend. It is well with you.
