ABRAHAM’S BLESSINGS SHALL BE YOURS
⏰Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent (22 March 2018)
đź“•Gen 17:3-9; Ps 105:4-5, 6-7, 8-9 (R.v.8a); John 8:51-59
My dear, I pray that the kind of the blessing God gave to Abraham (Gen 17:3-9) shall also be your lot through Christ our Lord. Amen.
However, remember that it was Abraham’s faith in God that earned him that blessing because that faith was counted in his favour as righteousness (cf. Rom 4:13, 22). Abraham believed even in seemingly impossible situations (Rom 4:18) insofar as God has said it. It is through this faith that he was able to see the day of Jesus and was glad (cf. John 8:56).
So this faith is not what one gains by mere employment of reasoning faculties as the Jews were trying to do with Jesus’ teachings (John 8:52-53, 57). God is bigger than reason. It is not the kind of faith that says with Thomas, “Until I see it in the Bible, I will not believe” (cf. John 20:25). Remember that “Blessed are those who believed although they have not seen (John 20:29).
Is your faith like that of Abraham?
Only that can earn you the blessing and gladness through Jesus. And may God heal our unbelief and increase our faith in him and also grant us the joy of his presence through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Have a nice day spent in faithfulness to God. Peace be with you.
