⏰Monday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time 1 (11 February 2019)

📖Gen 1:1-19; Ps 104:1-2a, 5-6, 10 and 12, 24 and 35c (R.v.31b); Mark 6:53-56

The creation account in the Book of Genesis serves a number of purposes. It gives the theological explanation of the existence of all things that are. More than that however, it shows us the faithfulness and the all powerful nature of God, who spoke the word and things came into existence.

The faithfulness was explained with the fulfilment of his spoken words. At the birth of Isaac, this was emphasized with the words, “The Lord was kind to Sarah as he had said, and fulfilled his promise to her” (Gen 21:1).

Note also that this was not a chronological account of creation. Nobody was following God about, taking data of his creative activities. Rather, this account came into being when the elders of Israel were trying to tell their children the story of how God saved them with a mighty arm from the hands of their oppressors.

That spoken word with which God did all these took flesh and dwelt among us (cf. John 1:14) in the person of Jesus. And Jesus continued to make God’s faithfulness and omnipotence to be present to us, healing the sick and alleviating the problems of many who came to him.

In this working week, I invite you to make Jesus the central focus of all you shall be doing. He promises to make all things sail smoothly for you. May your faith in him never fail you. Amen.

Have a successful week ahead under the protective hands of God. Amen. Peace be with you.
