⏰Friday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time 1 (15 February 2019)

📖Gen 3:1-8; Ps 32:1-2, 5, 6, 7 (R.v.1a); Mark 7:31-37

How was your celebration of Valentine yesterday? Did you remember to help someone who is in need? In case you were selfish about it without reaching out to the poor, today is another day to make amends. In reaching out to the poor, we help Jesus to recreate the world. By showing love to others, many did win the favour of God in the past. Why not embrace that channel of grace?

OK! Do you trust God? Do you believe that he can never deceive you? Do you believe that with him beside you, there is nothing you shall want (Ps 23)? Then why would you want to play God?

Eve was not contented with the envious position which God gave her as a human being; she wanted to be like God and have her eyes opened (Gen 3:5). So she believed Satan who has nothing but has only come to steal (John 10:10) instead of believing in God who has given her everything (Gen 1:28; 2:16).

Of course, after eating the forbidden fruit, their eyes were opened but they became blinded from seeing God as he really is. They indeed became like God (Gen 3:22) but from then has nothing to offer because cut off from God, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

It is very easy to blame Eve for being overambitious but are we different? How much do we trust God? What do we want to achieve by running from one miracle Church to another? What do we want to achieve by joining secret cults and making rituals for wealth? Are those not similar situations to that of Eve?

Learn to trust God in all things, and just as he opened the ears of the deaf and mute (Mark 7:31-37), may he open doors of favour in your life so that you may join in saying with a relaxed mind, “He has done all things well” (Mark 7:37). Amen.

Have a grace-filled day. Peace be with you.
