“LORD, DELIVER US FROM GREED AND ABUSE OF POWER”

⏰Monday of the Eleventh Week of Ordinary Time 2 (18 June 2018)

📖1 Kgs 21:1-16; Ps 5:2-3, 5-6, 7 (R.v.2b); Matt 5:38-42

Check it out my dear, most sins we commit today are borne out of greed. Imagine! Ahab still wanted the little vineyard of Naboth because of this. Out of greed, he disobeyed the command of God (Deut 7:3) and married Jezebel, a Sidonian.

That marriage introduced many ills into the culture and religion of Israel. Notice that Ahab was not keen to do any harm to Naboth but Jezebel did that in his name and thus added abuse of power to their sin of greed.

The economists make distinction between our needs and wants. God provides everything we need and they are normally sufficient for us. But human wants are insatiable and in the process of trying to satisfy them, we run into trouble.

If you want to get the approval of God for righteousness, you must shun greed and be detached both from possessions and from power. It is only a man with detached mind that can shun revenge (see Matt 5:38-42).

I pray that in this new working week, God may provide all your needs and as well give you the grace of contentment and humility for what you have. Amen.

Have a nice working week ahead. Peace be with you.
