⏰Friday of the Thirteenth Week of Ordinary Time 2 (01 July 2022)

📖Amos 7:4-6, 9-12; Ps 119:2, 10, 20, 30, 40, 131 (R. Matt 4:4); Matt 9:9-13

Beloved in Christ, it is once more a new month, the 7th in the order of months. According to Gen 2:2, “By the seventh day, the work God had done was completed, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work he had done.” I pray with you that in this 7th month of the year, the work of God may come to perfection in your life and that you may rest from all your worries through Christ our Lord. Amen.

While we pray for that blessing, there is an important warning given to us today. Some of us are now so familiar with God and the Word of God, or claim to be so close to him and very familiar with the Word of God such that they do not regard these with much importance again. That is a risk.

The prophet Amos recounted how some people in that category were becoming less interested in religious matters but rather wishing that such religious matters be cleared off their neck so that they can go after their personal affairs.

Is it not equally true that many of us behave in such manner? Do we not neglect our religious obligations in pursuit of ephemeral satisfaction just because God is slow to anger?

On our existential level, do we not try all we can to make sure we cheat others in a bid to survive? Are we among those who hoard things in order to sell them at an exorbitant price when it becomes scarce?

In all these, the prophet Amos warns that if we continue to neglect God and his call on us to uphold justice, time would come when we shall look for him without seeing him (read Amos 8:4-12). Imagine such a drought! What can we do without God?

Hmmmm! May we never nosedive to a level when God would distance himself from us because of our filthy living. Amen.

Have a beautiful new month spent in steadfastness towards God and love of our neighbour. It is well with you.
