“BUILD YOURSELVES UP ON YOUR MOST HOLY FAITH” (Jude 20)
📖Jude 17, 20b-25; Ps 63:2, 3-4, 5-6 (R.v.2b); Mark 11:27-33
The Letter of St. Jude, which has only one chapter, addresses a number of things but, in a special way, it tackles the problem of false prophets and teachers that was trying to destroy that society. So we can say that that letter is meant for us too especially now that we are being bedevilled by many controversial and compromising prophesies.
Among other solutions it puts forward to us, it asks us to have a strong faith and build strong love for God. Jesus is the second person of the God-head. In fact, 1 Cor 1:24 declares him as the power and wisdom of God.
Unfortunately, the chief priests and the scribes in Mark 11:27-33 were with Jesus, the wisdom of God, but instead of asking to gain this wisdom, they started questioning his authority to purify their worship. In their wickedness of heart, they preferred to be left in their rottenness than to be purified.
It is only through the wisdom from God that we can discern a right spirit, coming from God (cf. 1 John 4:1-3).
You see! We cannot achieve much in life without wisdom. We cannot equally achieve wisdom with a wicked soul. We are all encouraged to free our hearts of all wickedness and plots to run other people down for our wicked and selfish gains.
What is the need for endless strife and wicked ambitions when the world is a vast land with numerous opportunities to accommodate all of us?
May the Lord save us from the hands of the evil ones and grant us the grace to stay away from wickedness ourselves. Amen.
Have a very restful weekend. Peace be with you.
