⏰Wednesday of the Seventh Week of Ordinary Time 1 (27 Feb 2019)

📖Sir 4:11-19; Ps 119:165, 168, 171, 172, 174, 175 (R.v.165a); Mark 9:38-40

Recall that, two days ago when we we began reading from the book of Sirach, which is one of the deuterocanonical books of the Bible, we noted that Jesus is the wisdom of God. The author of that book had advised us from that very beginning to seek wisdom in all that we do. Today, he continued that advocacy, telling us that to seek wisdom is to seek life.

Do you now remember the declaration of Jesus in John 10:10? He said that the enemy comes to steal and to destroy but he has come that we may have life to the fullness. The good news is that everyone is a potential beneficiary of that life. Nobody is excluded; there is no segregation in God. The first criterion to gaining it is by believing in his name (cf. John 20:31). All those who believe and receive him are given the power to be called children of God (cf. John 1:12).

Can you see one of the reasons it won’t bother him that somebody else is working in his name? It is because the person equally belongs to him by faith. Why do we now kill ourselves and destroy other people just because they do not belong to the same denomination as we do? Will it not be better we concentrate on working out our way to heaven and then pray for those whom we think are following the wrong path? What if on the last day we happen to be the ones following the wrong path?

Lord, be kind to us and give us wisdom to follow your ways into life everlasting. Amen.

Have a blessed day ahead. Peace be with you.
