“…WE ALL ARE WITNESSES” (Acts 2:32)

Acts 2:14, 22-33; Ps 16:1-2a and 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11 (R.v.1); Matt 28:8-15

My dear, we are constantly on a pilgrimage on earth. And our destination is heaven. We shall not look back until we get there. And the Church has given us formulae to reach that long-for destination.

Not quite long, we ended the 40-day journey of Lent in which we celebrated the Passion of Christ. And now, we’ve already began another 50-day journey to celebrate his victory over death and sin. How do you join in celebrating this?

After the resurrection of Jesus, several stories were spread through the land through the instrumentality of many witnesses. With our understanding of the term “witness” to mean someone who sees something happen and so is able to describe it to other people, one would have thought that the stories would be the same thing. But no! For the Jews till today, he was taken away by his disciples. But for the Apostles, he is risen.

How did the division begin? The Jewish authorities who were trying to cover their tracks, probably having learnt of their errors, gave bribe to the soldiers to tell a lie – a lie that would divide the faith of people in God (cf. Matt 28:11-15).

Can you see how bribery and corruption caused an everlasting deception that kept many in the darkness of faith and division among the children of God? That attitude has not changed even among us today.

Why not help in stopping this evil that blows nobody any good? Jesus asks us to be witnesses (Acts 1:8). But just as he did, our witnessing must be to the truth (cf. John 18:37). Remember that IT BEGINS WITH YOU! If you refuse to get associated with corruption either by giving or receiving bribe, you would be helping to recreate the world.

May God give us the grace to be good ambassadors to the truth, and through that set the world free of deceit. Amen.
