????THE LOWLY ONE CALLED AND THE LORD HEARD HIM (cf. Ps 34:6)
The scripture says in 2 Chron 7:14, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal the land.”
The prophet Zephaniah reiterates this point in Zeph 3:1-13. The defiled, rebellious and oppressing city is invited to change her ways so that, “On that day [she] shall not be put to shame because of the deeds by which [she has] rebelled against [God]” (Zeph 3:11).
We are that defiled city, and the spirit of this season invites us to repentance, as we noted at its beginning some weeks ago. We are called to follow the footsteps of the first son of a man, who was rebellious at first but changed later to do his father’s will.
We must not bother about whatever it might cost us to achieve that change. Even if costs us our life as the faith and vows of St. Lucy did to her, we must not forget that what we stand to gain is greater than whatever we might lose here.
As we turn to seek his face therefore, we pray that he may look upon us with mercy, hear our prayers and heal us, our families and our land. Amen.
I wish you a spiritually enriched and joyful day ahead. It is well with you.
