TEACH AND PRACTICE THE LAW OF GOD
⏰Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent (22 March 2017)
????Deut 4:1, 5-9; Ps 147:12-13, 15-16, 19-20 (R.v.12a); Matt 5:17-19
While we celebrate the mercy of God at this period of Lent, let us not forget that he is equally a God of Justice. It is important that we do not take his laws for granted. It is equally our responsibility to make sure others learn about the laws and practice them.
Just before the people of Israel entered the Promised Land, Moses called them together to remind them of the importance of keeping the statutes and ordinances of God as that is the only wise thing to do since it guarantees their perfect relationship with God who is their saviour (Deut 4:1,5-9).
Two important things must be noted from catechesis of Moses: the laws are to be engraved in the heart and the children are to be taught (Deut 4:9).
How many of us still find it fanciful to form the minds of the youths and those placed under us towards God? Is it not the case today that many of our elders, especially parents, have contributed to the destruction of the Youth by offering them a world that promises comfort without a corresponding responsibility? Worse still, many of us are indifferent to this important task.
Proverbs 22:6 tells us to catch the mind while it is still young and then win it forever to be responsible. True responsibility only comes from keeping the laws of God from our heart.
Remember today the rule of the game: Teach and Practise. May He give us the grace to respond boldly and freely to this invitation. And may his blessings rain upon us in all that we do today and beyond. Amen.
Have a nice day with the Lord. Peace be with you.
