I HAVE NO POWER OF MY OWN…ALL POWERS BELONG TO GOD
⏰Wednesday of the Fifteenth Week of Ordinary Time 2 (18 July 2018)
📖Isa 10:5-7, 13-16; Ps 94:5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 14-15 (R.v.14a); Matt 11:25-27
The wise know the mind of God, what he wants of us, and then follow it. No one can know the mind of God if it has not been revealed to him by Jesus. The only ones disposed to listen to Jesus are those who humble themselves like little children. It is to these that the mind of God has been revealed (see Matt 11:25-27).
The madness and pride of Assyria prevented her from recognizing that she was merely an instrument in the hands of God. Instead of serving God’s purpose of purification upon the Israelites, she worked towards destruction of Israel. Worst still, she boasted of all these as a manifestation of her power (cf. Isa 10:8-11; 13-14).
Pulse and think! Have you heard people or even yourself use these statements below or their kind:
❌Do you know who I am?
❌By the time I finish with you, you will know that I am in charge here…
❌I spent my hard-earned money on that pauper and…
❌I can do anything I want with my body…
❌Not even your religion can save you from my hands…
Those are different ways we feel that all power belongs to us and therefore want to play God. Such attitude angers God. It was for such that God swore to destroy Assyria (cf. Isa 10:16-18).
We pray for the constant renewal of the Holy Spirit in us to enable us discern the will of God always, as well as the spirit of humility that would constantly remind us that we are nothing without God. Amen.
May God’s protection and love be upon you today and beyond. Peace be with you dear.
