GOD ESTABLISHES HIS CITY FOREVER (Ps 48:9)

⏰Tuesday of the Fifteenth Week of Ordinary Time 2 (17 July 2018)

đź“–Isa 7:1-9; Ps 48:2-3ab, 3c-4, 5-6, 7-8 (R.v.9cd); Matt 11:20-24

My dear, I want to let you know that no matter how much the enemy threaten to destroy you; no matter the evil they have declared upon you, as long as God is on the throne, “It shall not stand, and it shall not come to pass” (Isa 7:7), Amen.

God continues to assure us of his protection and provision. There is nothing we can do without him. He continues to talk to us through the different events that form our daily lives. If only we can pay attention to him, we shall not be doomed.

The name of Isaiah’s son, “Shearjashub” (Isa 7:3), which means “A remnant will return” was a sign for Ahaz that no matter how bad the situation may be, God will never let his people down. With that, God was assuring Ahaz that the two nations that were threatening Judah with war would not succeed in wiping out Judah. Instead, they are going to meet their doom while attempting to destroy Judah (cf. Isa 7:1-9).

Of course, Ahaz would not listen to the voice of God through the prophet but he would go ahead to make alliance with Assyria. That would lead to his own doom and the destruction of Jerusalem.

Like Ahaz, many times we fail to listen to God’s call for us to repent and trust in him. Jesus condemned the different towns he ministered to for that same reason (Matt 11:20-24). For their refusal, their condition would be worse than that of Sodom and Gomorrah (Matt 11:24).

God is reminding us today that there are two ways before us. One leads to life while the other leads to death (cf. Deut 30:15-20; Psalm 1:1-6; Jer 21:8-10). The decision is left for us to choose the way we want. But let us be assured that if God himself builds for us, we shall have no fear of falling.

May God grant you the grace of trusting him without doubt and be blessed with protection and provision that comes from him alone. Amen.

Have a beautiful day in the presence of God. Peace be with you.
