????”EVERYONE WHO HAS LEFT [EVERYTHING]…WILL INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE” (Matt 19:29)
My dear, on this last day of the month of November, and just before we go into the last month of the secular calendar year, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. Andrew, one of the very first apostles of Jesus. This feast tells us of the importance of depending totally on God in all things.
The account of the call of the first four apostles, in the Gospel of Matthew, tells us something very important about their response, “Immediately, they left their nets and followed him” (Matt 4:20).
It is important to note that the act of ‘leaving their nets’ is equivalent to losing their lives because, as fishermen, the net is their source of livelihood. However, it could be that having seen the kind of things Jesus was doing, they thought they would gain a better life with him.
That is great wisdom! And, as St. Paul reminds us in Rom 10:11, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” We are invited to follow the example of St. Andrew today and follow Christ with our whole heart, knowing that we shall not be disappointed.
Again, we shall also try to invite people to come and share in that beautiful life in Christ as the Gospel of John gave Andrew credit of doing (cf. John 1:40-42). Remember that they may never know if no one tells them (cf. Rom 10:14).
May Christ increase in us the grace and zeal to follow him and to work for him in this life so that we may inherit eternal life with him in the next. Amen.
Have a blessed day. Peace be with you.
Amen
