“BLESSED ARE THEY WHO DWELL IN YOUR HOUSE, O LORD” (Ps 84:5a)

Obviously, the joy of the Christmas season is still in the air. I hope you are sharing well in that joy. May this joy of the new born King never depart from you through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

The family is very important in making the joy of this celebration be felt all over the world. That is why the celebration of the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph is also very important at this period. The Holy Family is a model for all families. It is a family where love is manufactured and shared to all. They are called the Holy Family because God consecrated them thus and they cooperated with the plans of God.

Providentially, the second reading (1 John 3:1-2, 21-24) for the celebration of the Holy Family reminds us of the Father’s love for which made him to adopt us as his children.

In presenting Samuel to the temple, Hannah brought him to have an encounter with this divine love. The effect of that became very evident in the way he led the people God entrusted to his care. By virtue of our baptism, we are also consecrated and invited into that divine love.

Is it not true that the good leadership we all desire would become a reality when we start grasping the opportunity the Church offers us in the formation of good leaders? Jesus symbolically stayed back in the temple to teach the religious leaders of Israel because when good leaders are in authority, people shall rejoice (cf. Prov 29:2).

The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council considered the family as the domestic church. The parents must therefore be ready at all times to teach and instruct their children. The children must also be ready to learn from their parents.

Notice how Jesus obeyed his parents by following them home and continued to be obedient to them. That is a model for all children and all under authority. Obeying our parents and our superiors attract blessing for us (cf. Exod 20:12).

May God ➕ bless our different homes and make us live lives worthy of emulation in this life so that we can live eternally with him in his kingdom in the end. Amen.

It is well with you and your family.
