🎤”ALL THINGS WERE CREATED THROUGH HIM AND FOR HIM” (Col 1:16)
Really, Jesus is everything that we need! He is the beginning and the end. In him we have our being, the image of the invisible God. With Jesus beside you, you shall lack nothing (cf. Ps 23; Luke 5:34).
That is the message which St. Paul gives to the Colossians (cf. Col 1:15-20) and to us today. As we noted yesterday, the Colossian Church was bedevilled by false teaching, and one of them is on the person of Christ and his position in the salvific plan of God. His response shows that he is the beginning and end of the salvation history.
What position is he in your life? Have you placed him in a secondary position, where he is consulted as a part-time only when you have serious need to consult him?
No! He needs to be an essential part of us at all times. Note that this cannot be possible unless we are ready to let go of our old self and old way of life. St. Paul tells us that anyone who is in Christ is a new creature; old things have passed away (cf. 2 Cor 5:17). Jesus already implied that in his parable of the wine and the skins (cf. Luke 5:36-39).
May God grant us the grace to stand firm upon Christ the rock of our salvation and so gain all the blessings and protection he offers to us. Amen.
Have a joyous day ahead. Peace be with you.
