BEHOLD, YOU ARE BARREN AND HAVE NO CHILDREN; BUT YOU SHALL CONCEIVE AND BEAR A SON

19 DECEMBER ?Judg 13:2-7, 24-25a; Ps 71:3-4a, 5-6ab, 16-17 (R.v.8a); Luke 1:5-25 ?”BEHOLD, YOU ARE BARREN AND HAVE NO CHILDREN; BUT YOU SHALL CONCEIVE AND BEAR A SON” (Judg 13:3) My dear, you are a child of destiny. Never allow the enemy to minister failure into your life. God who created you did so for a purpose. So never think that the Lord has abandoned you or does not answer you in times of your needs.? Have you read the account of the announcement of the birth of Samson (Judg 13:2-25) or that of John the Baptist (Luke 1:5-25)? Did...

THE LORD IS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS

18 DECEMBER ?Jer 23:5-8; Ps 72:1-2, 12-13, 18-19 (R.v.7); Matt 1:18-24 ?”THE LORD IS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS” (Jer 23:6) The psalmist says, “In his days shall justice flourish, and great peace forever” (Ps 72:7). That’s why Herod was uncomfortable when the prophecy was about to be fulfilled. Darkness and light does not meet. When light comes, darkness gives way.? The prophet Jeremiah, in Jer 23, was speaking to a people who no longer found meaning in God and in their religious worship because some evil kings have been misleading them. So after his oracles against the kings (Jer 22:10-30), Jeremiah gave...

THAT ALL MAY BE SAVED

17 DECEMBER ?Gen 49:2, 8-10, ; Ps 72:1-2, 3-4ab, 7-8, 17 (R.v.7); Matt 1:1-17 ?”THAT ALL MAY BE SAVED” (1 Tim 2:4) Right from the beginning, after the fall of man, God had a plan for his salvation. Jacob must therefore have been inspired to make that prophecy concerning Judah that, “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah…until he comes to whom it belongs; and to him shall be the obedience of the people” (Gen 49:10).? We can understand that that prophecy preempts the promise made to David that his dynasty shall last for ever (2 Sam 7:13), which found...

THE LORD, OUR GOD, IS THE ONE LORD

WEDNESDAY ?Isa 45:6b-8, 18, 21b-25; Ps 85:9ab and 10, 11-12, 13-14, (R. see Isa 45:8); Luke 7:19-22 ?”THE LORD, OUR GOD, IS THE ONE LORD” (Deut 6:4) Fresh from the land of exile and slavery, where they experienced polytheism (the idea of many gods) and religious prostitution, the people of Israel needed to be reminded that they have only one God, who is able to do all things well for them, and under whom they shall experience victory and glory (see Isa 45:6-25).? That reminder is equally very important for us in our day, when great confusion abound, as to...

THE LOWLY ONE CALLED AND THE LORD HEARD HIM

TUESDAY ?Zeph 3:1-2, 9-13; Ps 34:2-3, 6-7, 17-18, 19 and 23, (R.v.7a); Matt 21:28-32 ?THE LOWLY ONE CALLED AND THE LORD HEARD HIM (cf. Ps 34:6) The scripture says in 2 Chron 7:14, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal the land.”???? The prophet Zephaniah reiterates this point in Zeph 3:1-13. The defiled, rebellious and oppressing city is invited to change her ways so that, “On that day [she] shall not...

NO WEAPON FASHIONED AGAINST YOU WILL SUCCEED

THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT MONDAY ?Num 24:2-7, 15-17; Ps 25:4-5ab, 6 and 7cd, 8-9, (R.v.4b); Matt 21:23-27 ?”NO WEAPON FASHIONED AGAINST YOU WILL SUCCEED” (Ps 54:17) My dear, in this new working week, I pray for you that any stone the enemy hurls at you this week and beyond shall not only turn stepping stones, they shall also become for you, showers of blessing. Amen.? Those who labour to pull you down shall only be labouring in vain and working for your good because, just as God changed the evil mission of Balaam for the good of his people (see...

OPEN OUR EYES TO THE TRUTH, O LORD!

SATURDAY ?Sir 48:1-4, 9-11b; Ps 28:2ac and 3b, 15-16a, 18-19 (R.v.4); Matt 17:10-13 OPEN OUR EYES TO THE TRUTH, O LORD!?? My dear, I pray for you that God may continue to draw you close to himself every time, to know the truth, follow it and be free.?? Do you understand why some people normally leave the truth to pursue shadows? I think it is because they normally subject the verification of the truth to principles which are generated from personal biases. But truth cannot be subjective.?? That was the problem with the leaders of the Jews which Jesus condemned....

MY PEACE SHALL BE LIKE A RIVER AND MY NAME SHALL NEVER BE CUT OFF FROM BEFORE THE LORD

FRIDAY ?Isa 48:17-19; Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6 (R. John 8:12); Matt 11:16-19 ?MY PEACE SHALL BE LIKE A RIVER AND MY NAME SHALL NEVER BE CUT OFF FROM BEFORE THE LORD (see Isa 48:18-19) Amen! That is my prayer today and also wish that you join me in saying on this day of great joy for me.? It is my birthday, a day I always want to celebrate my mother in a special way and thank God for saving her life some years ago as she was giving birth to me. Kindly join me in praying for her...

FEAR NOT, I WILL HELP YOU

THURSDAY ?Isa 41:13-20; Ps 145:1 and 9, 10-11, 12-13ab (R.v.8); Matt 11:11-15 ?”FEAR NOT, I WILL HELP YOU” (Isa 41:13) Think of the shame and trauma the Israelites had while they were being led to exile. They suffered humiliation and were helpless in the face of opposition. To worsen the case, they were helplessly turned to slaves in exile.? This was the same nation that had been empowered by God to conquer all the nations that stood on their way on their way to the Promised Land. But by now, their self confidence and esteem have been punctured.? So Isaiah...

THEY WHO WAIT FOR THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH

WEDNESDAY ?Isa 40:25-31; Ps 103:1-2, 3-4, 8 and 10, (R.v.1a); Matt 11:28-30 ?”THEY WHO WAIT FOR THE LORD SHALL RENEW THEIR STRENGTH” (Isa 40:31) Having spent a long time in exile amidst disappointments and pain, and of course, with a possible feeling of abandonment by God, it would need an extra grace for the Israelites to be convinced again that God cares for them. Isaiah tried to do this by pointing to the fact that God’s plan may not be very evident to man at the beginning, yet, it pays to trust and wait on him (see Isa 40:25-31).? Like...
